Imsai Arasan is really a refreshing movie, entertaining us after long time. It's a vadivelu period, who is the correct choice for both the role in the movie. We can give a pat on Simbhudevaan's shoulder to deliver such a period film, in the right mixture of serious and hilarious incidents. As prasanna and filbert said, Shankar has a great sense in selecting movies to produce. But he could spend some more money to have a rich look, where in some scenes the sets looks cheap like a stage play.
In one line, the story is nothing but a remake of Sivaji's uththamapuththiran.Vadivel fits well in pulikesi role, and you cannot escape from laugh in many scenes. And when the second vadivelu is introduced (character created like MGR), slowly you will accept him in that seroius character too. He is also used the given chance and work hard to make him as a real hero. He handled both the character like a experienced hero. He is performed well in Aada vaa.. Song with good dance movements, suit for him. This is one of the career best movies for Vadivelu. Nasser did a villain in his usual perfect way. He is one of the artists who stand unique always.
Simbhudevan has proved that he is a cartoonist in many places like "aNthappuram 24 manNi nEra chEvai", "aranNmanai kathavin pazhaiya, puthiya, ethirkala enNkaL". Really many of the pulikesi's ideas of pulikesi has social touch in hilarious way. The reason pulikesi is explaining in the first day of caste-war stadium is remarkable. It really shows the social awareness director wants to have in his film. Before that, on the way of pulikesi to stadium, the banners are nothing but the mirrors of today's politics. I am able to see the film similar to Hollywood's 'HOT SHOTS'. The way the man-of-the-match is given to sachithanantha, who is having 10 in the back of his shirt, explaining the way victory in Sachin's voice. If Simbhudevan tried more funs like HOTSHOTS it will be much funnier than what it is. When compared to the jokes in Anantha Vikatan on pulikesi, film failed to have attractness like that. In most of the scenes and songs, they are looked whether director has reshooted the scenes of old tamil films, without any changes.
The ten commands show that it is nothing but shankar's movie and prooves that eventhough it's historical laugh riot, he didn't failed to touch the social awareness. Sabesh-Murali as music director did a good job in the background. But all the songs are having the shades of some old one. And also, Director captured them in similar way how it looks in old movie. Aada vaa.. is very similar to yaaradi nee mohini.. from uththama puththiran and Pootiya Sirayinai.. like Achcham enbathu from mannathi mannan. I should appreciate art director Krishna, for making such a good work, in the alloted cheap cost. As a whole, seeing the sets, it is little down to earlier historical movies like Thiruvilaiyadal, Raja desingu. The film is not shot in today's color and it's like eastmen color with brownish shade, similar to the color of its promo banners. But technically the film is bad. Even when both vadivelu's characters appeared in the screen, you can identify easily the graphics there.
Really it is really a watchable movie and like paarijatham, this is another movie, which is out of today's kollywood genre, dada based movies.
